The performance-based art collaborative Ned&ShivaProductions examines the complex interplay of image and meaning, surface and depth, and politics and behavior by simulating and documenting aspects of everyday life that simultaneously mirror and transform their historical sources and openly confront the present.
Reconsidering the art of propaganda as a force that underscores the many ways in which visual representations can carry a political charge or influence social dynamics, the work provides a commentary on prevailing social or political conditions through video, photography, sculpture and installations.
By exploring alternative perspectives on recent historical episodes, re-tracing the experiences of local populations, Ned&ShivaProductions finds the contradictions and hybridizations inherent in cultural norms and stereotypical perceptions by re-enacting the shared and imagined memories.
Ned&ShivaProductions is a collaboration between Javier Barrera and Shiva Lynn Burgos.
